This is a simple wheat bread recipe. This is a simple wheat bread recipe.
Number of Servings: 40


    Whole Wheat Flour, 3.5 cup
    Molasses, .25 cup
    Olive Oil, .25 cup
    Salt, 1 dash
    Water, tap, 1.25 cup
    Yeast, bakers, .25 ounce (1 packet)


I double this recipe and back two loaves side by side in a cake pan-- nice long loaves.


mix warm water (not boiling- but hot) with yeast.
Add molasses and let sit until bubbly. (about 15 minutes)
add salt and oil. (this slows yeast)
add flour, slowly.
knead for 8-12 minutes-- keep it as sticky as you can (rises better that way)
let rise to double in size in warm area of kitchen, covered (about one hour) OR
let rise overnight in refrigerator. Recommend refrigerator and flavor and moisture and consistency of bread are so much better-- if you do fridge, let stand out of fridge and bring back to room temp (about 2 hours) before final knead and shaping into loaves.

Shape into loaves, put in oiled pan and flip over in oiled pan. Cover and let rise for one hour

bake at 350 degrees until brown-- about 40 minutes
