Ingredients

8 serving Garlic (cloves, sliced thinly)
    1 cup, chopped Onions, raw
1.75 cup Bob's Red Mill Red Lentils, dry
340 gram Kroger boneless ham (12 ounces)
1 cup, strips or slices Carrots, raw
    8 serving Water (cups)
    3 tsp Parsley
2 serving Bay Leaf - whole leaf
4 serving Cayenne Red Pepper 1/8 tsp (1/2 tsp)

Put all ingredients into heavy pan and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer, with gentle bubbles forming. Cook 90 minutes to 2 hours at this rate. Stir every 15 to 30 minutes. Don't let soup stick to bottom of pan.

Pour into large mugs or bowls. Add grated cheese (1 ounce) for extra nutrition.
    3 tbsp Olive Oil

Tips

You can make this as a 12 serving dish, and have an appetizer sized portion instead.

Directions

Bring all ingredients to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer (slow bubble). Stir on occasion, making sure food doesn't stick to bottom. If soup gets too thick, add a bit of water. Never drown it!
