Ingredients
-
2 cups water
1 cup uncooked oats or multigrain oat-based hot cereal
30 grams Apricots, dried (approx 4 whole dried apricots)
10g Dried Cherries (approx 1T or 10 to 11 pieces)
10 grams Raisins (approx 1T or about 30 pieces)
10 gram(s) Candied Ginger (approx 1 3" piece)
1/8 tsp Allspice
1/8 tsp Cardamom, ground
1 tsp Cinnamon, ground
1/4 tsp Nutmeg, ground
1/5 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp salt
0.25 tsp Kama`aina Brand Hawaiian Sea Salt (by HWNHMMBRD)
Directions
Mince all dried fruit thoroughly and mix with vanilla extract and salt in sauce pot. Add water and heat to boiling. Reduce to simmer and gradually shake in dry cereal. Most grains contain gluten, an adherent substance - the more it is manipulated, the stickier it gets. Stir according to preference: no stirring results in cereal grains that retain their original dry shape, while constant stirring will result in cereal with a gluey consistency. Simmer until the water is absconded into the cereal and fruit. For a low sodium option, omit the salt. Omitting salt may increase the cooking time.
