    1 medium onion
    5 cloves of garlic
    1 lb. extra lean ground beef
    3 -15 oz cans tomato sauce
    3- 6 oz cans tomato paste
    1 can diced tomatoes
    1 tsp baking soda
    2 tbsp sugar
    1- 4 oz can mushrooms -drained
    6-8 bay leaves
    6-8 small dried red peppers


Chop the onion into small pieces, and mince the garlic. Saute in 1 tbsp olive oil in a 6 quart pot.
brown hamburger. Add to the onion and garlic. Pour in all of the canned sauces, paste, and diced tomatos. Add to large cans water. Bring to a boil. Add the baking soda, and stir until the sauce stops bubbling. Add sugar, mushrooms, bay leaves, and red peppers. Simmer for 11/2 to 2 hours until sauce reaches the consistency you like. Serve over whole wheat pasta. This recipe make 10 to 12 -1 cup servings. I take the leftovers and freeze it in the portions I feed my family. Enjoy!
