    1 c. sugar
    1 stick butter, softened
    1 large can evaporated milk + 1/2 can water
    3 eggs, separated
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    3 medium green apples, cored and sliced (with or without skin)


Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks, one at a time and beat well after each addition. Combine flour and baking powder, then add a spoonful of flour mixture alternately with the milk and water. Add vanilla. Beat egg whites and fold in. Grease and flour a 13 x 9 inch pan. Pour half of batter in pan and top with half of apple slices. Pour remaining half of batter over apples and top with remaining apples in a decorative pattern. Push slightly into batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
