Ingredients

    * 5cups of water
    * 5 chicken bouillon cubes
    * 3 ounces of tofu
    * 6 tablespoons of soy sauce
    * 1 1/2 teaspoons of sesame oil
    * 2 ounces pork or chicken
    * 1/3 cup canned bamboo shoots
    * 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
    * 2 green onions
    * 1 teaspoon salt
    * 1 teaspoon sugar
    * 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    * 1 tablespoons water
    * 1 egg
    * pepper
    * chili oil

Directions

Marinate the Meat
To begin, chop the meat into tiny pieces. Place the chopped meat in a bowl and add one teaspoon soy sauce and one half teaspoon sesame oil. Mix these together so that the meat is well coated. Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for twenty minutes or so.

Prepare the Vegetables
Now we will chop the bamboo shoots and the green onions into small pieces. Next, cut the tofu into small cubes.

Mix the Hot and Sour Soup Ingredients
In a large pot, bring the five cups of water to a boil. When the water is boiling, add the bouillon cubes and stir them until they are dissolved. Add the chopped bamboo shoots to the broth, and then put in the tofu and the marinated pork. Next, we will add the salt, sugar, rice vinegar, and remaining soy sauce and sesame oil.

Simmer the Hot and Sour Soup
Turn the soup down to medium low and let the soup simmer for five minutes or so. While the soup is simmering, mix together the corn starch and the two tablespoons of water. Slowly add this mixture to the soup, stirring as you go. Let the soup simmer for another five minutes, until it thickens slightly.

Add Egg to the Soup
While the soup is simmering, crack the egg in a small bowl and beat it well. Slowly add the egg to the soup and give it a few gentle stirs. Let the soup simmer for another minute or so until the egg is cooked.

Serve the Hot and Sour Soup
Serve the soup topped with green onions and a little bit of pepper. Then you can drizzle on some chili oil. Enjoy.
