Introduction

Ingredients

    1 cup (2 sticks) butter
    1 cup brown sugar, packed
    1/2 cup granulated sugar
    2 eggs
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 cups uncooked rolled oats
    1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    2 Tbsp. water
    1 cup dark raisins
    1 cup walnuts
    1 pkg. (12 oz.) milk or semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

1. In a large bowl, cream the butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar.
2. Beat in the eggs until light. Add the vanilla, baking soda and salt.
3.Blend in the rolled oats, wheat flour, all-purpose flour and water to make a fairly stiff dough.
4. Blend in the raisins, walnuts and chocolate chips.
5. Shape cookies about the size of large unshelled walnuts. Place on lightly greased cookies sheets. Flatten slightly.
6. Bake at 375 F for 10 to 12 minutes or until cookies are just browned around the edges and feel firm in the center. Do not over bake.
7.Remove from cookie sheets. Cool on racks.

    I made a batch of these tonight. I added some ground flaxseed & left out the water. My family has a thing for chocolate chips so I added more; but my husband said "these are too healthy". It was hard to just eat a couple, and the calorie count is high for me. - 6/22/10
