    1 pint salt
    1 gallon cold water
    50 medium cukes or about 2 gallons
    1 1/2 T alum

    10 lbs sugar
    2 quarts vinegar
    5 sticks cinnamon
    whole can of whole cloves
    2/3 of a 3" jar of celery seed


Mix 1 gallon water and 1 pint of salt, add pickles, let stand for 1 week.

When week is up....
1st day..drain from brine, cover with boiling water
2nd day...drain, cut chunks or slices. Add 1 1/2 T alum to enough boiling water to cover pickles.
3rd day...drain and cover with boiling water.
4th day...drain and cover with this syrup:
10 lbs sugar
2 qts vinegar
5 sticks box cinnamon
cloves and celery seed

Each day for 4 days drain syrup from pickles, boil and pour over pickles. Makes about 10 pints.
