Ingredients

    Chicken Thigh, 2 thighs, boneless

    Louis Rich Turkey Smoked Sausage, 2 cups, cut into 1 inch slices

    Canned Diced Tomatoes, 1 can

    Swanson Chicken Broth 99% Fat Free, 3 cup

    Water, 5 cups
    Okra, frozen/raw, 1 cup slices

    Onions, raw, 1 cup, chopped

    Green Peppers, 1/2 cup chopped

    Brown Rice, long grain, 1 1/2 cups uncooked

    Oregano, ground, 1 tsp

    Red Pepper Flakes, 1/2 tsp

    File' Powder 2 tsps

    Garlic, 1 clove minced

    Celery salt, 1 tsp

    Salt and pepper to taste.

Directions

Cut up all your veggies and the sausage links. Set aside. In a slow cooker or crockpot put the 3 cups of broth and the 5 cups of water into the pot. To the broth add the chicken thighs as is. They will become pieces as it cooks and gets stirred. To that add tomatoes, onions, bell pepper, red pepper flakes, garlic, oregano, fille powder, and celery salt. Turn on low and let cook for 5 hrs. At the end of 5 hrs stir and break up chicken. Then pour in the 1 1/2 cups of brown rice and okra. about 20 minutes until it is done stir in sausage. Stir and serve. Yummy!

    Very good! My entire family loved it! It's incredibly aromatic, so tasty, and when there is a crock pot involved, it's so simple. I found that the recipe yields MANY more than 6 servings. - 9/29/09

    It is a cajun seasoning you can normally pick up at in the spice isle in the local grocery store. It makes the dish!

    I also loved this recipe. However, my rice did not cook either. So, I removed it to stove and the rice cooked in a very short time. - 9/14/08

    Hmmm. Maybe putting the rice in sooner would help or cooking the whole thing on high. I know for my slow cooker it only takes about an hour. A friend said that some crock pots differ in time and temp. I don't know? I cooked it last weekend and it worked.
