    1 pound lean ground beef
    12 oz whole wheat spaghetti
    1 cup chopped onions
    2 cups portabella mushrooms
    1 cup chopped carrots
    1 cup chopped green peppers
    1 cup diced celery
    3 cloves garlic
    1 cup canned tomatoes cut up
    1 cup tomato sauce
    1/2 cups water or red wine
    1 tsp dried basil, crushed
    1/2 tsp dried oregano, crushed
    2 small bay leaf
    2 tsp cornstarch


In a large saucepan cook meat, mushrooms, onion, carrot, green pepper, celery and garlic till meat is no longer pink and vegetables are tender. Drain off fat.

Stir in undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, water or wine, basil, oregano, bay leaf 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Bring to boiling, reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaves.

Combine cornstarch and 1 tbsp cold water. Stir into sauce. Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir for 2 minutes more.

Meanwhile cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain well. Serve sauce over spaghetti.
