Introduction

This casserole is SO much better than the instant, packaged kind! Plus, you can control the ingredients - this version uses regular milk and cheese, but you can substitute low-fat versions. i made a few changes to this recipe - used 1% milk and sifted in flour to make a white sauce without butter. added garlic powder, paprika and dijon mustard to sauce, stirred in fat free cream cheese, swiss, cheddar, monterrey jack. topped with cheddar instead of bread crumbs. yummy. - 10/25/09

Just like my husband's!! but you have to note this...1/4 serving is HUGE! Add some peas as a side, mix it in with half portion and you are good to go!! - 5/17/10

I made this last night. Instead of the corn flakes, I used organic whole grain flakes and it not only gave it great nutty flavor, but also boosted the fiber. - 9/3/09

I will never eat mac n cheese from a box again! This recipe was super even though I didn't end up baking it. I also added broccoli and carrots in the boiling water with the mac to add a little something extra. - 10/25/08

Made this recipe tonight. It was great! I liked it and more importantly my three children liked it. They did ask that next time I make it I omit the cornflakes. (I happened to like it with the cornflakes). - 1/17/11

This was good but I am not a garlic person so I think next time I will substitute onions my husbands mother used to make baked macaroni with onions in it and it was really good. - 6/27/09

Made this leaving out the flour and cutting the milk back to 1 cup. Not as creamy but ohh so cheesy! - 6/30/12

This was pretty good. I will definitely make it again. The only problem I had was that I made too many noodles and not enough sauce. Maybe next time I will mix in the macaroni with the sauce then bake it. - 1/17/12

This was very good. I lessened the fat & sodium content in my version. The family still enjoyed it. Will make again. - 9/29/11

I made this for my family and they loved it! I love the corn flakes on top and I used 1% milk and mexican blend cheese and it tasted just fine. I think cheddar would taste way better though! - 8/17/11

I made this for dinner tonight-great! I used garlic bread crumbs instead of cornflakes and reduced fat cheddar to cut a little fat. I also used Mrs. Dash garlic and herb and a tablespoon of minced garlic instead of garlic powder. A relatively easy recipe the whole family loved! - 7/4/11

Great recipe! I added a teaspoon of mustard and a few drops of Tobasco sauce. And I topped with crushed Ritz crackers since I didn't have any corn flakes. - 4/15/11

this is exactly the way I make mac and cheese and have been for years...without a recipe. It was nice to find something similar here all broken down as far as nutritional info. Yum! - 6/11/10

I made this and stirred the cheese into the sauce, and then stirred pasta shells in before putting in a pan to bake. I also omitted the garlic (don't have any at the moment). I'll definitely need to add spice for flavor next time, but it was pretty good. - 4/3/10

This was really good! Even my 4 yr old liked it. I added a sprinkle of Oscar Mayer real bacon bits. Next time I make it I will probably use a little more cheese. This one is a keeper! - 7/1/09

I used a little more cheese though; and didn't add spices (not a big fan of flavour i guess)

My kids wanted mac & cheese and I had these ingredients on hand. I used ww noodles and omitted the cornflakes. It was a big hit with the kids. I might try using more cheese next time or just stirring it up and not baking to see if that gives it a creamier texture. Definitely a keeper! - 3/12/09

Delicious! I didn't have any cornflakes, so I just topped it with a couple of slices of cheddar, which baked nice and crispy. Also, I used colby/jack instead in the macaroni, but I think any cheese would be great. I LOVE how easy and fast this recipe is!! - 1/30/09
