Introduction

This is a nice variation on an old recipe from a book compiled of parents' favorites 20 years ago. It is a great tasting bread, but also a nice dessert if served fresh and warm. This is a nice variation on an old recipe from a book compiled of parents' favorites 20 years ago. It is a great tasting bread, but also a nice dessert if served fresh and warm.
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    2 oz butter/margarine
    3/4 c granulated sugar
    3 overripe bananas, mashed
    1 egg
    1 level dessertspoon honey
    1 1/4 c whole wheat flour
    2 level tsp baking soda
    1/4 c skim milk
    1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add mashed bananas and mix well. Add unbeaten egg and honey and beat thoroughly. Sift flour. Dissolve baking soda in the milk. Fold the flour and milk alternately into the creamed mixture. Lastly add chocolate chips. Bake in well greased loaf pan (8" X 4 1/2") in a moderate (350 - 375 degree) oven for approximately 50 minutes, or until toothpick comes clean. Serve with butter.
Makes 8 1" slices.
