Introduction

Traditional sabbath bread is tasty and rich. Traditional sabbath bread is tasty and rich.
Number of Servings: 10

Ingredients

    4 cups flour
    1 1/12 tsp. yeast
    2 tablespoons oil
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 egg + enough to glaze pich of saffron
    1 tsp salt
    1 c hot water
    2 tbl corn meal


Directions

Put yeast in hot water with a tablespoon of sugar and let sit for about ten minutes till it's frothy.
Put all dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix together.
Add yeast mixture and add egg, mix till it pulls away from the bowl adding flour and water as needed.
Knead about 10 minutes until soft.
Cover with a towel and set in warm place for about an hour till it doubles in size.
Divide dough into three balls and roll each ball into a snake.
Braid strands and pinch ends.
Put on a cookie sheet that has been dusted with the cornmeal.
Brush top with egg and cover with plastic wrap, cover with towel and let rise about an hour.
Bake in 350 degree oven for about 40 minutes until done in the middle.
