A basic beef stew great for cold nights. A basic beef stew great for cold nights.

    1.33 pounds beef for stewing
    4 medium potatoes peeled and cut into 1.5 inch cubes
    4 carrots, peeled and cut into 0.5 inch slices
    4 stalks of celery cut into 0.5 inch slices
    0.5 large sweet onion (ex. Vidalia, Mayan Sweet, or Walla Walla), skin removed and cut into quarters
    64 oz beef broth
    16 oz water
    3 tablespoons olive oil
    1 cup all purpose flour
    1 tablespoon kosher salt
    1 tablespoon fresh ground pepper
    2 teaspoons seasoned salt


Using a one gallon Ziplock bag place flour, salt, pepper, and seasoned salt inside and shake to combine. Add beef pieces and shake to coat. Place oil into a large soup pot and place on medium high heat. When oil shimmers remove meat from bag and place in pot. Brown meat, stirring to brown all sides.

Put onions into flour bag and shake to coat and separate. When beef is browned add onion to beef and stir. Cook for approximately five minutes. Add two cups of water followed by the beef broth. Then add remaining veggies and cover, cooking for 60 minutes. Stew is done when veggies are tender and the potatoes are not falling apart.
