Number of Servings: 4


    (Dutch Stew)

    Serves 4

    500 g. stewing steak or beef stew cubes (all fat removed)
    500 g. onions in thin rings
    1/2 ltr. beef stock or stock from buillion (lukewarm)
    25 g. flour
    1 bay leaf
    1 whole clove
    a dash of vinegar
    a dash of dark sweet soy sauce


Brown meat with salt and pepper.
Remove from the pan and keep it warm.
Fry the onions brown, add the flour and stir, add the stock, stir again and put the meat back in the pan.
Add a dash of vinegar, a dash of soy sauce, the clove and bay leaf.
Leave to simmer for 3+ hours with a lid on the pan. Remove the bay leaf from the pan.

Serve with boiled potatoes, applesauce, or red cabbage.

Takes about 4 hrs total.

This is something that's better the longer it cooks. This really easy to do in a crockpot. Just add everything at once. I don't pre-cook the beef or onions when using the crockpot. Throw it in go and go to work. When I get home dinner is ready.
