Ingredients

    7 cups all-purpose flour
    2 cups white sugar
    2 teaspoons salt
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1 1/2 cups shortening
    3 teaspoons almond extract
    1 cup milk
    3 eggs

    Frosting:

    4 cups confectioners' sugar
    1/2 cup shortening
    5 tablespoons milk
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a large mixing bowl, mix together flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. /Mix in shortening. Once the shortening is well blended, stir almond flavoring and milk into the dough at the same time, followed by eggs. Roll out dough onto a floured surface, using a floured rolling pin. Roll the dough thick. Cut out cookies using whatever shape you like, approx. 2 inches in diameter, and arrange them on a cookie sheet.
Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 8 to 10 minutes, or just until bottom is golden.

For Frosting:
In a large bowl, cream together the confectioners' sugar and shortening until smooth. Gradually mix in the milk and vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth and stiff, about 5 minutes. Color with food coloring if desired.
