This is a great way to use leftover ham, including the bone. This is a great way to use leftover ham, including the bone.
Number of Servings: 6


    16 oz. Ham, chopped
    1 Large Onion, chopped (450 grams)
    3 large Carrots, chopped (450 grams)
    2 cups Split Peas
    1 ham bone
    8 cups of water
    seasonings to taste (I use salt, pepper, onion powder, rosemary, thyme, and parsley)


Place the ham bone, ham, and 8 cups of water into a large pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Remove the bone and allow to cool, then remove any remaining ham from the bone and return it to the pot. Meanwhile, reduce heat and add onion, carrots, split peas, and seasonings to the pot. Simmer until peas and veggies are soft, about 45 minutes. Serve alone or with your favorite bread or crackers.
Tastes even better as leftovers, after the herbs and spices have had more time to infuse their flavors!
