Ingredients

    10 slices bacon, cut into .5 inch pieces
    2 sm onions, chopped
    5 tsp salt (optional- I don't think it needed it)
    .25 tsp cayenne pepper
    .75 cup water
    1 bag dried black beans
    1 bag dried pinto beans

Directions

Prepare beans ahead of time as directed on bag. NOTE- preparing beans together will cause pinto beans to turn gray.
In large saucepan over medium-high heat, cook the bacon, stirring occasionally until golden but not crisp, about 5 minutes. Add the onion & cook, stirring occasionally, until soft & translucent, 7-10 minutes.
Stir in the salt, cayenne, barbeque sauce, molasses, brown sugar, water and the beans. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover & cook for 15 minutes.
Uncover, stir the beans and add more water to achieve desired consistency. Continue to cook, uncovered, for 5 minutes more, or until beans are not quite soft. Serves approximately 16.

  • In your directions you listed BBQ sauce, brown sugar and molasses. It wasn't in the ingredients and I don't know how much is to be put into the recipe. Did the calorie content not include this either? Thanks - 11/8/09

    Funny, I don't remember posting this recipe, adn looking back at it, I'm pretty sure some of what I typed in got lost. I'll try to remember to go back to the original recipe and figure out what I really did- I only made it the one time. Sorry!
