Introduction
Couldn't find this healthy. old fashioned cereal on your data base so I have added it. This cereal has lots of flax in it which makes it a good source of Omega-6. It also contains a whopping 6 grams of fibre which doesn't hurt first thing in the morning. It takes just a little longer to prepare than oatmeat but gives you lots of nutritional bump to start your day. I'm almost 60, and my mother served me this most of the winter. Ingredients
-
1 cup of water
dash of salt
1/4 cup approximately Red River Cereal (it is a Canadian product, www.redrivercereal.com)
Directions
The box gives you cooking instructions but for a single serving, I just bring 1 cup of water and approximately 1/4 cup of the dry cereal to boil. Add a dash of salt and once you have the mix simmering--just stir it every minute or so for 5 minutes or until it gets nice and thick. Then take it off the heat, cover it for a few minutes and then serve with warm milk and any fresh fruit like bananas, raspberries, strawberries, peaches etc.
1 serving is 150 calories, plus whatever you put on it. (milk, fruit, honey whatever)
