Introduction

This is a must have for all our(Marathi) religious ceremonies.We use fresh shelled Green Peas for this.Frozen Green Peas can be used--these should not be the sweet variety.The same recipe can be used for any fresh seeds like Green Beans as well.In that case you would need to use a half teaspoon of Organic Brown Cane Sugar as well. Ingredients

    500gms.freshly shelled Green Peas,washed
    100gms.Sesame Oil(or whichever Oil preferred)
    1tsp.Turmeric Powder
    3tsp.Red Chilli Powder
    Salt to taste
    5medium hot Green chillies
    1tsp.whole Black Pepper corns
    0.5cup raw shredded Coconut
    1tbsp.Black Mustard Seeds
    1tsp.Asafoetida(Hing)Powder
    1.5cups of Water for cooking


Directions

Grind the Green Chillies and Black Pepper corns to a paste.Add shredded raw Coconut and grind to a coarse chutney.Set aside for time being.
Heat Oil in a heavy bottomed pan.When hot lower flame and add Black Mustard seeds,Turmeric Powder and Asafoetida(Hing)Powder in the given order.After the seasonings sputter,add 1.5 cups of water.Add Green Peas and let it come to a boil.Add Red Chilli Powder and Salt to taste.Cover with lid and steam till Green Peas are cooked but firm.Now add the coarsely ground Coconut Chutney and cook for a further 5minutes on slow flame.Serve hot as a part of either Lunch or Dinner.
