It is a great way to indulge and have portion control at the same time! Why get stressed out about indulging? Those who have long term success with weight loss will agree, occasional splurges are part of life. Total deprivation of treats will only backfire in the end. - 6/6/13

My comment is for those who like to be so critical, you don't have to make it. Everyone on Spark is not on the same diet. This recipe works well as is. For those who can eat the ingredients and calories, why not? I agree with the moderation idea and normal ingredients. - 6/6/13

For those who are critical: If you're afraid of 224 calories and an occasional sweet splurge, then have you really come to terms with changing your lifestyle for permanent weight loss? When the urge for chocolate cake hits I would rather make and eat something like this, which is real food. - 7/7/13

*THIS RECIPE WAS CHANGED AFTER ALL THE CRITICISM.* I do a gluten-free version with flax meal, almond flour & stevia. It's still high in calories because of the flax & almond flour, but it's really high in fiber & omegas. Whether you make it with healthier options or not, it's still an easy recipe. - 6/6/13

Moderation is the key here, folks. Anything is fine in moderation. This recipe belongs here just as much as the spinach smoothies. Personally, I can't wait to try it! - 6/6/13

I am really amazed at all the negativity. It's the first time I've seen it since I've been in Spark, and that's been years. I'm very unhappy now!

I think the recipe sounds great. If someone doesn't want to eat it / make it / indulge, then just DON'T. Why come and bring the recipe writer down?

I'm confused about what recipe people are looking at. A couple of us see this has 1 serving in a mug & 223 calories, others see 2 servings & 300+ calories, according to the comments. This looks win-win: Settle Cravings + No Leftover Temptation = AWESOME. - 6/6/13

nice treat for the calories. Regarding all the critical reviews, if you don't want to eat real food move on! Substituting Splenda for sugar is healthier????????? Since when is Frankenfood healthier. This is why I don't share my recipies. - 7/19/13

I made this with a few modifications to suit my dietary needs. I cut the recipe in half, used whole hard white wheat freshly ground in my mill, used honey instead of sugar, whole raw milk, and even though I cut the recipe in half, I still used a whole large egg ... came out delicious! - 6/6/13

I make this with I tablespoon sugar and 2 tablespoons of water. I make this for DH. I add 2 65% Ghirardelli chocolate chips after baking and they melt and it is chocolate covered. DH loves it and it is done less frequently, Much better than a dozen for sure. - 6/6/13

This IS good for all the reasons mentioned already. The first time I made it I microwaved it too long and it turned out like Styrofoam. the next time I was more careful and it was VERY good. Just a tip for first-timers. - 7/19/13

It was good for the most part,a little dry . I did change the oil for low sugar applesauce. If you have a strong microwave don't leave it on for three min. It was rock hard the first time I made it. In a similar recipe they said to microwave only 1 min.I did that on the second one and it was fine. - 7/19/13

To the original poster: I'm sorry you felt compelled to change your recipe due to intense criticism--that's what is out of place here, not the recipe. And FYI to many of the naysayers: "healthier" substitues like Splenda and other fake sugars are way more dangerous than a 300-calorie cake. - 12/5/13

Okay, made with a whole egg instead of packaged egg white. Also added a squeeze of caramel sundae sauce just because. Cooked for the full 3 minutes, and while it is mildly dry, I think it's mainly because it's wheat flour. That always has a drier consistency to me. Very good, though! - 9/5/13

I'm confused by some of the comments - 300+ calories? 2 servings in a mug? The recipe on my screens says 223 calories and 1 serving per recipe. What am I missing?

How does this have so much fibre with such a meager amount of flour? Also, I would be inclined to decrease the oil quite a bit, and in it's place add a little pureed apple. - 6/6/13

Thanks for sharing this. It was great! Just perfect for a sweet tooth and chocolate craving. I substituted half of the oil with milk and used a whole egg since I don't have packaged egg whites. It was a little too dense. Will try using just the egg white next time--might turn out a little fluffier. - 7/8/13

Would love to make this but don't know what a 1/2 pkg egg whites means. Any help? I don't care about the calories or negativity or amt of fiber. I just like that it is 1 serving I can indulge with no leftovers which is dh & my weakness now than we have empty nest. Will use stevia for diabetic dh - 8/31/13

When I add canola oil to my recipes, it says 1 Tablespoon is 40 calories, this say 1 tsp is 40 calories. Maybe the spark page only recognizes tablespoons and so you would have to say .333 tablespoon instead of 1 tsp. to make it right. - 3/1/14

Hi - thanks for sharing, I always wondered how you make mug cakes.
Nice cake to share with a friend when you need a quick treat, without all the additives you would get if you bought a cupcake in the store. The other thing I liked was a minimum of dirty dishes.
