    Black Beans, dry - 1 cup
    *Tomatoes, red, ripe, raw, year round average, 2 medium whole (2-3/5" dia) (remove)
    Garlic, 3 cloves (remove)
    Onions, raw, 1 large (remove)
    Olive Oil, 1 tbsp (remove)
    Salt, 1 tsp (remove)
    *Cumin seed, 2 tbsp (remove)
    Chili powder, 2 tbsp (remove)


1. Rinse pre-soaked beans and return to pot. Cover with new water and begin cooking. (Beans may cook up to 2 hours, or you could use a pressure cooker)

2. Chop onions and garlic and fry in olive oil until beginning to brown. Add to black beans.

3. If desired, peel tomatoes by boiling first for a short time. Chop tomatoes and set aside.

4. Add cumin and chili powder to tomatoes.

5. When beans are cooked, add tomato mixture. Mash the beans to the extent desired and continue cooking until the mixture reaches the preferred thickness.

Lots of things could be added to this recipe, hot sauce, lime juice, cilantro, etc. Canned beans could also be used, but will change the nutritional info due to the sodium. In that case, just throw everything in a pot and heat it up and mash it together.
