my way of making crabcakes my way of making crabcakes
Number of Servings: 6

    1/2 tsp. garlic minced
    1 tbsp. onion minced
    1 tbsp. celery diced
    2 tbsp. mayonnaise
    1 whole egg
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. black pepper
    1 tsp. Dijon mustard
    1 tsp. Old Bay Seasoning
    1/4 cup bread crumbs
1 pound lump crab meat (I use Phillip's canned crabmeat)
    2 tbsp. oil for sautéing
    lemon juice (optional)

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except crab meat, bread crumbs and lemon juice. Gently mix in crab meat, then add bread crumbs. Don't overwork or over mix it.

Spread a thin layer of bread crumbs on your work surface. Form crab mixture into equal balls, approximately 2" in diameter. Place on crumbs. Gently flatten the ball of crab mixture and round the edges. Form cakes about 1/2" thick and 3" round. Refrigerate.

In a saute pan, heat oil until hot. Gently slide in crab cakes 2 at a time. Brown on one side approximately 2-3 minutes. Turn and brown on the other side. Turn down heat to simmer and cook crab cakes another 5-8 mins.

  • Good recipe.Be sure to use kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper.I also add some freshly chopped flat leaf parsley and a bit of chopped roasted red pepper(for color and taste).Using panko bread crumbs gives a better texture-not to mention the less grittiness of commercial bread crumbs.Try it- - 5/6/11

  • Yum! The only change I made was replacing the breadcrumbs with pulverized FiberOne cereal - more fiber and a little sweeter. - 8/20/09
