    1 cup all-purpose flour
    2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    3/4 teaspoon baking powder
    3/4 teaspoon salt
    2 large eggs
    1 cup sugar
    6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
    1/2 cup milk
    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
    1 1/3 cups boiling water


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Sift together flour, 1/3 cup cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. With mixer or by machine, whisk together eggs, sugar, butter, milk, and vanilla in separate bowl. Beat until smooth.
Add flour mixture and stir until the batter is just mixed together.

Spread the batter evenly in an ungreased 8-inch-square baking pan. Mix together remaining 1/3 cup cocoa powder, brown sugar, and boiling water. Pour over the batter. Bake in the middle of the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until cake tester or toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or slightly sweetened whipped cream.
