    ½ cup sugar
    3 cups flour
    4 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp cream of tartar
    ½ tsp salt
    ½ cup shortening
    1 cup raisins
    1 large egg .
    1 cup orange juice
    or ¼ cup lemon juice plus
    ¾ cup water


Soak the raisins in the juice. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Cut in shortening. Add the egg to the juice and raisins andadd to dry mix all at once. Mix to blend but don’t over work the dough. Pat out to about ½” thick and cut scones into squares with a knife or rounds with a can. Place ongreased cookie sheet about one inch apart. Bake at 400*F for 12 minutes or until done.Do not over bake
