    1 can beans (your preference-red,black,white,pinto, etc.)

    4 ounces tomato sauce

    11/2 tablespoons Sofrito

    salt or Adobo to taste

    1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil

    1 teaspoon olives or capers (optional)
    1 small potato or pumpkin, peeled and cubed (optional)

    1/2 teaspoon oregano

    dash cumin

    1 packet sazon

    1 packet chicken or pork bouillon (optional)

    1 cup water

    1/2 cup cooking ham, diced (optional)


"Fry" sofrito, tomato sauce, adobo, bouillon, oregano, capers, sazon, and ham in olive oil until fragrant. About one minute or two.
Add water, ham, and potatoes. Bring to boil about 5 minutes.
Add beans with juices. Cook about 25 minutes at medium heat.

  • Great recipe! Before I pour in the liquids I let the rest of the ingredients covered on low heat for 10 minutes so the flavors come together a little more. Add bay leaves, oregano leaves and recao (cilantro) for a more flavorful dish without adding calories.
    I also skip the tomato sauce to avoid
