Number of Servings: 36


    3 1/2 c. white flour
    4 tsp. ginger
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. each cloves, nutmeg, and allspice
    2 tbsp. cocoa powder
    1 tsp. each baking soda and salt
    1 1/2 c. each fancy molasses and granulated sugar
    1 c. hard margarine, melted and cooled
    2 large eggs
    2 c. buttermilk, at room temprature

    3 tsp. margarine + 3 tbsp. flour are needed to grease and flour three loaf pans. Included in nutritional information.


Grease and flour 3 loaf pans. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Sift together the flour, spices, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Beat together the molasses, sugar, and butter . Beat in the eggs. Stir in the buttermilk. Add the dry ingredients and beat until the batter is thick and smooth.

Divide among the prepared pans. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Makes 3 loves @ 12 slices per loaf.
