Number of Servings: 8


    1 c flour
    1/3 c brown sugar
    1 T baking powder
    1/2 t cinnamon
    1/3 c butter
    1 c quick oats
    1/2 c currants
    1/2 c walnuts r pecans (toasted are nice)
    1 egg beaten
    1/3 c milk
    Coarse sugar to sprinkle on top


Mix dry ingredients; cut in butter. Add currants, nuts and oats.
Combine egg and milk in separate bowl (save a little) & add to flour mixture. Stir until just moistened - will be sticky. On a lightly floured surface, pat into 7" circle. Cut into 8 wedges. Brush with eggwash. Bake.

  • these were GREAT, thank you! I used greek yogurt in place of the buttermilk, and less butter; otherwise no changes! We ate two apiece this am.... i KNOW, i KNOW... but oh, so good! - 3/13/12
