Preheat oven to 400 degrees Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Number of Servings: 15


    1-1/2 cups all purpose flour
    1/4 cup sugar
    2 tsps baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 cup sourdough starter
    3/4 cup milk
    1/3 cup applesauce (unsweetened)
    1 egg, well beaten
    1/2 cup mashed bananas
    1/2 cup raisins or craisins (optional)
    1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)


Makes 15 regular muffins.

Measure flour into large mixing bowl. Add sugar, baking powder and salt. In a separate bowl combine sourdough starter, milk, applesauce, egg and mashed bananas. Add this mixture to the dry mixture all at one time stirring just until all is moistened. Fold in raisins and nuts. Grease muffin tins and fill two-thirds full. Bake until a light golden brown.

  • I just made these....WOW! These are my first sourdough muffins and they turned out beautiful. I didn't have any nuts so I used organic unsweetened cranberries. I will make these for guests on Saturday - 11/24/11
