Ingredients

    3/4 cup shortening
    1 cup brown sugar, packed
    1 large egg, beaten
    1 1/2 tbsp soy flour
    1 1/2 tbsp nonfat dry milk
    1 1/2 tsp raw wheat germ
    1 3/4 cups + 1 1/2 tsp whole wheat flour
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1/4 tsp nutmeg
    1 cup mashed banana
    1 3/4 cups oatmeal, uncooked
    1/2 cup raisins
    1/2 toasted wheat germ

Directions

Cream shortening with sugar, add the egg and mix well. Mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg together and add to creamed mixture. Blend until smooth. Add mashed banana, oatmeal, raisins, and wheat germ next. Blend. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 F for 12-15 minutes. Grease cookie sheet between each use for best results. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

    Substitute unsweetened applesauce for the shortening and you are good to go. Makes for a great post exercise snack. - 9/3/07

    shortening is not healthy by any means. even though it may say 0g. trans fat it's not. hydrogenated oil. look it up. mind boggling artery clogging stuff. just trying to inform. - 8/14/07
