    1 lb 90% lean ground beef
    1 onion
    1 stalk celery
    3 cups mashed potatoes
    3 tsp garlic, minced
    1/2 cup frozen peas
    1/2 cup finely diced carrots
    4 T worcestershire sauce
    1/4 cup flour
    salt & pepper to taste
    dash paprika
    1 T olive oil
    6 oz sliced mushrooms
    1/2 cup merlot


Brown ground beef with 1/4 of the onion and pepper to taste. Add 1/3 cup water, 2 T worcestershire, and 1 tsp beef base. Once cooked through, add 2 T flour to thicken and cook an additional 5 minutes. Layer ground beef in the bottom of a baking dish.

Saute celery, 1/2 of remaining onion, 1 tsp garlic, and carrots until onions are translucent and carrots are tender. Add 2 T water as necessary to prevent scorching. Add 1 T worcestershire and 1 T flour to thicken. Add in frozen peas and stir. Layer vegetable mixture on top of ground beef mixture.

Prepare 6 servings of instant mashed potatoes according to box direction, adding 1 tsp minced garlic to cooking water. Spread mashed potatoes evenly in a layer over peas and carrots mixture. Sprinkle with paprika.

Bake casserole uncovered 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, saute mushrooms, 1 tsp minced garlic, and remaining onion. Add 1/2 cup merlot, 1 T worcestershire, and 1 tsp beef base. Once mushrooms have cooked down and onions are soft, add 1 T flour to thicken. Add margarine and stir until melted and gravy is glossy. Add 1 T of water at a time if gravy becomes too thick. Serve over shepherd's pie. Makes 6 servings.
