    3/4 cup shortening
    1 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1/4 cup molasses
    2 cups flour
    2 tsp baking soda
    1/4 tsp salt
    2 tsp ginger
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1 tsp cloves
    granulated sugar


Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses, and beat until mixed thoroughly.

Add flour and dry ingredients. Form into small balls, and roll in granulated sugar.

Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 8 - 10 minutes, at 350 degrees. Let cool on pan for 1 minute, and then remove to a plate or cooling rack until completely cooled. DO NOT OVERBAKE.
