To the sodium concerned person- the only possible source in this recipe for THAT much sodium is the soy sauce. Buy yourself low sodium soy sauce and/or cut back on it. This looks tasty and I'm going to follow my own advic and make this for myself! - 2/8/09

A good start but too bland. I use beef broth or stock, more low sodium soy sauce & garlic than recipe calls for, sliced mushrooms, sliced water chestnuts, & bamboo shoots. Because I like the peppers & onion crisp, I add them a half hour to an hour before serving. Serve over barley cooked in broth. - 8/6/12

My family and I loved this recipe.
Made a few small enhancements by marinating the chuck with Webers whiskey marinade (1 pkg) overnight
Substituted water with 1cup of chicken broth.
It was melt in your mouth good

Great recipe and so easy. I cooked for quite a bit longer but my slow cooker seems to always take longer than recipes say. I added the peppers towards the end and also added some mushrooms and chilli flakes. Really nice, full of flavour, thankyou so much for sharing. Will definitely make this again. - 2/4/13

Yummy! I served with brown rice. I was a little nervous about throwing everything into the crock pot without and pre-browning, but it came out delicious. Very easy! Highly recommend. - 4/27/08

Just OK. I added some Dijon mustard to give it a little pep, and used low sodium soy sauce to cut on the incredibly high sodium content. I don't think I will do this again. - 6/20/20

TIP: La Choy Lite Soy Sauce contains 550mg of sodium per TABLESPOON. Bragg Liquid Aminos contains 320mg of sodium per TEASPOON (so 960 per tablespoon - 3 tsp = 1 tbsp). - 6/23/16

This was a great recipe. I will definitely be adding this to my rotation. I used red, green, orange, and yellow peppers. I also used fresh garlic and low-sodium soy sauce. The broth was a little bland before adding the cornstarch and water, so I added a couple of dashes of worcheshire sauce. YUMMY! - 10/26/11

My mother has made this for us since I could eat solid food. I love it!. When I was younger this was the only time you could get me to eat a green pepper, but I always tried to put as many green peppers on my plate with this dish. She serves it with horseradish mashed potatoes, I used wheat pasta. - 7/15/11

I used low sodium soy sauce. Also used a combination of red, yellow, purple, orange and green peppers. Also threw in some mushrooms, because according to DH, a meal without mushrooms isn't a meal. HA! - 7/26/20

My husband & I loved this recipe. I added a bit of freshly ground pepper & more garlic but otherwise stuck to the ingredient list. I'm not sure about the 1.2 cup red pepper so just put in one large. I might add some mushrooms next time and will cook for at least 30 mins less time . - 7/2/20

I cooked this meal for 4 hours in my crock pot. I also added carrots to the vegetables and 3 minced garlic cloves. I used only half of the soy sauce since it is high in sodium. It was great tasting. I took a meal to my neighbor and she loved it as well. This will be a favorite now in my home - 2/27/18
