An Indian lentil dish that is served on white basmati rice. An Indian lentil dish that is served on white basmati rice.
Number of Servings: 4


    1/2 C Toor daal
    2 T olive oil
    5 curry leaves
    1 onion sliced
    2 t ginger/garlic paste
    1/2 t green chillie paste
    1 tomatoe chopped
    1/2 t cumin powder
    1 t coriander powder
    1/4 t turmeric
    1 t salt

    4 C cooked Basmati rice


Wash then cook daal/lentils in pressure cooker with about 1.5 cups water. When done (about 15 min) cool then blend in blender jug or using a handheld blender.

Fry onions and curry leaves in oil until lightly golden. Turn down heat then add the chilli and ginger/garlic. now add the tomatoe and the rest of the spices. Cook 'till tomatoe is well mushed then add the blended daal adding more water if necessary. Simmer for a few minutes. You can add some garam masala at this point if desired.
Garnish with cilantro and mint before serving.

Serves 4 = 1 cup of rice with 1/4 of daal recipe.
