I came up with this recipe because I always thought that a can of baked beans was too soupy. I came up with this recipe because I always thought that a can of baked beans was too soupy.
Number of Servings: 5


    1 16-oz. can Bush's Vegetarian Baked Beans (do not drain)
    1 15-oz. can black beans, rinsed and drained
    1/2 cup chopped green pepper
    1/2 cup chopped onion
    2 tablespoons dark molasses
    1/4 teaspoon or more ground black pepper


Preheat oven to 350.

Spray a sauce pan with non-stick spray. Saute the green pepper and onion until soft, adding a little water if necessary to help saute the veggies.

Combine the baked beans and the drained black beans in an casserole dish. Add the sauteed veggies, molasses, and black pepper. Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the lid and bake for another 30 minutes.

Makes about 2-1/2 cups -- 5 servings, 1/2 cup each.

I like this served with baked squash or sweet potatoes, sauerkraut, and a tossed salad.
