Ingredients
-
1.5 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar (optional)
1/2 cup butter, chilled and cut into cubes
1/4-1/3 cup ice water
Directions
Sift the flour, sugar, and salt into a bowl. Add the butter, and cut it in with a fork or pastry blender until it resembles fine crumbs with a few pea-sized bits. Gradually add water until the mixture clumps together. Press the dough into a flat disk, wrap in wax paper or plastic wrap, and refrigerate for one hour (you can leave this step out if you are in a hurry, but it makes the dough easier to work with).
Use the crust per the directions of the recipe you're making. If pre-baking is called for, bake at 375F for 8-10 minutes. Otherwise, cook per the recipe.
