Scones are perfect for weekend house guests, hostess gifts or picnics. Traditionally made with loads of butter and cream, mine use far less butter--and wheat flour. Submitted by: CHEF_MEG

Scones (Whole Wheat, Vegan)

By nature of being vegan, this recipe is cholesterol free, though I suppose you could change that and use regular butter and milk instead if that's what you have on hand.

This is a plain recipe that will make a biscuit-like scone, but you can jazz them up with whatever you have around: cinnamon, blueberries, dark chocolate chips, etc.

I usually add about a cup of blueberries. (If you do this, add .125 cups of blueberries to your nutrition tracker for each serving)Submitted by: TAILSFOX

Oat and Bran Scones with Honey Icing Glaze

Without the glaze, these scones have delicious, hearty oat and bran flavors, with a light sweetness - and they're under 100 calories!
For those with more of a sweet tooth, add the glaze to create a mouthwatering honeyed taste that compliments the hearty oat and bran flavors perfectly! (130-160 calories per serving with the glaze, depending on how much "sticks")Submitted by: BARBIECROCKER

NORASPAT makeover Grans recipe ENGLISH SCONES

I was taught to bake these at 5 years old.Gran used lard I have lightened them some.
I always use an egg glaze. The scones look more attractive. Use an egg or liquid egg white and brush on tops before baking.
Scones need a HOT oven 400 degrees. I line my large cookie sheet with Parchment paper. I use it several times over. I make many batches and freeze them to store. Microwave about 14 seconds to thaw. Depends on power. Submitted by: NORASPAT

Sourdough Dried Fruit Scones

Adapted from http://frazgofeasting.blogspot.com/2009/03
/sourdough-dried-fruit-scones.html, these are made without any kind of added fat or eggs (and would be fat free if you use skim milk). They're a good, quick carb hit that's completely customizable and a great way to use up starter toss-off. For Easter I soaked the fruit (raisins and currants) in amaretto and made crosses on the baked scones with a confectioner's-sugar and almond extract icing.Submitted by: JO_JO_BA
