Delicious and easy, this salad combines all of my favorite sushi ingredients in one bowl! And, because it's based on a California roll, it uses fully cooked seafood. Submitted by: STEPFANIER

Kate B's Amazing Kale and Eggs

My friend Kate's simple, delicious recipe. I was a little scared by the idea of kale at first (it sounded like seaweed to me) but it is so buttery and crispy in this recipe, a perfect flavor and texture combo with the eggs. A fantastic way to get in a vegetable at breakfast! Submitted by: THATJULIET

Spam Musubi

A favorite Hawaiian way to eat Spam is in the form of a musubi (pronounced moo-soo-bee, with no accent). It is a fried slice of spam on rice pressed together to form a small block, then wrapped with a strip of seaweed. Submitted by: LILMISS808

nori rolls

These are much quicker and easier to make than fancier nori rolls and taste just the same. The kids love them and the addition of half brown rice adds nutrition without being overpowering. We take them on picnics and in lunches instead of sandwhiches sometimes. Submitted by: MUMCAULEY

This healthy food carries both Japanese tradition and lots of iron. Using beet sugar (which is good for digestion) makes it subtly milder than other kinds of sugar. Submitted by: CAFE_AEBEE

Lady Tiger Roll - Sushi

My FAVORITE. I love sushi but all Japanese restaurants in my area charge outrageous prices, so I learned to make my own in a fun, easy way that only costs about $3.00 a roll (even when buying pre-cooked ingredients.) This recipe makes about 6 big pieces, which always fill me up. If you need more of a meal, try adding a teriyaki chicken appetizer.Submitted by: BRENBURY

Hearty Vegetable Miso Soup

When I was growing up my dad always made me a hearty miso soup for breakfast, usually with whatever vegetables we had on hand. He would also sometimes add rice or rice noodles to the soup and left-over rice or noodles. It was very comforting having soup for breakfast, especially on a cold snowy winter day in the Colorado mountains. It did not occur to me until later that it was unusual to have miso soup for breakfast compared to the typical American fare my friends were used to. My dad picked up the recipe from his Chinese language and martial arts teachers who swore by its health properties.Submitted by: RAINSPARK

Sunomono Sauce (Japanese vinegar+sugar sauce)

Cucumber & seaweed sunomono is a regular item in a menu at a Japanese resturant along with tenpura and teriyaki. You can create your own sunomono by keeping this sauce in a refrigerator. This sauce lasts about two weeks in a refrigerator. Makes about 1.5cups.

Spinach in soy sauce and broth (ohitashi)

Ohitashi (hitasu is a Japanese verb which means to soak) is another typical Japanese food which is less known and lighter than Goma-ae.
It is extremely easy to cook and often gets admiration at a party with a bit of work to wrap it with nori (seaweed.)
