No bread crumbs this week - will have to try it with matzo!!
I like to make this very creamy so i leave off the toasted breadcrumbs. Makes a fun yummy comfort food meal.
I think it looks too dry.
Doesn't look very appealing.
I looked at this video because the picture advertised for it looked delicious, this picture after making it looks horrible and dry; although,it may taste good. I will not try it but it gives you good ideas. I guess the whole point of less calories is that you hardly use cheese in this dish.
I love to add tuna in my mac and cheese instead of the bacon!
You had me until you said bacon. I would definitely leave it out. I don't like meat or veggies mixed in with my mac n' cheese.
The picture that I clicked on,did not look like this .. but anyway , after getting past the cinnamon roll recipe with drizzling icing ( seriously?) I would probably not try this.
I will try it, but I don't think my grandchildren would like it. They will like the blue box mac and cheese.
This is why I look at recipes. That trick with the bay leaf was cool (for use w/ carne adovada and Jamaican foods). The problem for me is expecting it be saucier. I suppose I'll try mixing a little greek-style yogurt (homemade w/ a heating pad). I'm off to the races!

I have to agree with many others, this doesn't look appealing at all, maybe it is the bacon or the color of the pasta or all the bread crumbs but I would think all those extras would add extra fat and calories. Plus there is hardly any cheese in this dish, 1/2 cup for 6 servings.
funny what is appealing to one is not to another...I ike the creamy smooth cheesy look in mine.

I like the attaching the bay leaf to the onion. I like bay leaf, but am always afraid to loose it in the dish. Thanks for that tip.
This has to be some of the driest macaroni I have even seen.
I too do not like the taste or the look of whole wheat pasta so use Smart Pasta by Catelli. It looks like white pasta but has the bonus of extra fibre. I use the recipe Three cheese macaroni in the SparkPeople Cookbook without the bacon and use panko crumbs! It is traditional looking -yummy!

This is not the typical macaroni & cheese meal. With food being so expensive to experiment with then I will stick to our family recipe.
Looks great! Simple, contains whole wheat, and I'll probably mix in sliced carrots for even less fat&calories/serving. I'm surprised at the comments about the look; I guess it's a question of what we're used to. After all, roast chicken with all the skin and bones looks appetizing to most people.

I love Mac & Cheese, however I have to agree with the others that think it looks unappetizing. I think the only way I would try it would be with regular white macaroni.

If you add Tumeric for color it may look better and will definitely add important antioxidants. We add it to our eggs and I add it to other things because it adds color and it also is good for you without an overbearing taste. This is in a spice jar. I am lactose intolerant so I only eat a little.

Certainly does not have a visual appeal, very dry looking also. I'll stick with my regular version and eat it less often and less of it.
I was looking for a healthy mac and cheese recipe to serve as a base for some ratatoille I made this week - thanks for the tips! The onion/bay leaf is an interesting idea. I might just chop up the onion after cooking and include it in the recipe. Love onion in my Mac and Cheese!
Looks like a good recipe - one problem, though......I soooooo do NOT like the flavor of Swiss cheese (I would *definitely* find a substitute if I were to try this out)!
I will try this recipe but I don't eat bacon I never did. I like macaroni and cheese but so far I been trying to stick to my diet given to me here. . I is true that I can't always stay with it but In general I do.
I tried this and don't like bacon with my mac and cheese, so left that out, and also the bread crumbs. I guess it is okay, but not as good as the rich, not good for you kind. I could tell it was diet.
It *sounds* good -- it's just that whole wheat pasta is NOT pretty! I'll try this recipe, but might add some thinly sliced tomato to the top (before topping it with the breadcrumbs).
Have to agree, not at all appetizing! Although I do like the idea of the bay leaf on the onion for other recipes.

Turkey bacon is made from mechanically separated turkey parts- super gross! Otherwise, this looks pretty good!
Mmmmm, it looks so yummy. I must be a plain Jane too, because I'll leave out the bacon and onion and bay leaf. Maybe the swiss cheese too and just use cheddar. Will try that real soon! Thanks Chef Meg!

I added some thinly sliced leeks and used some left over ham joint that was nice and lean really yummy and no one knew it was slimmed down version Mac and Cheese brilliant

I plan on making this very soon but with gluten free pasta, and for bread crumbs, will toast gluten free bread and then food process. Will add the broccoli too. And instead of skim milk may use coconut milk by "SoDelicious" for on 45 calories and 3 grams of fat more, but rich!

This is the most amazing Mac and Cheese I have ever had.
Oh, I am definitely going to give this a try as I am a huge fan of mac and cheese. I probably will leave out the bread topping and the turkey bacon as I like mine very plane and down to earth with the cheese and mac only. Yum, Yum.
One of my favorite meals growing up and still today is Macaroni & Cheese. This looks fabulous and I am very excited to try it.
To reduce cleanup try adding the sauce and bacon to the drained noodles in the pot.......
use panko instead of bread crumbs. add blanched broccolli.
