Penne casserole with ground beef

Ingredients
2 cups penne pastaboiling water1 lb ground beef2 cups grated sharp cheddar1 10 oz can mushroom soup1 cup finely chopped onion.25 cup finely chopped green pepper1 carrot, shredded1 tomato, chopped coarsely1 garlic clove, pressedsprinkle of salt and pepper1 tsp basil
Directions
In large saucepan boil water, then cook penne in boiling water for 13 minutes. Drain.

In large frying pan, fry ground beef til almost brown. Then add onions, green pepper, carrot, and continue to cook until soft. Add can of soup and stir until combined and warm through. Add chopped tomato and take off heat. Add cheese and stir to combine.

Turn out into 3 litre casserole dish sprayed with Pam. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes until bubbling.

    wonderful flavor, but I found the recipe a little hard to follow. No mention whether pasta is stirred in or layered, and the spices are listed in ingredients but not in instructions. I just improvised and it turned out really well, but I wonder if that's why some people haven't had good luck - 9/9/11

    This was really good. My BF doesn't eat peppers so I subbed in some green beans. - 12/10/07
