Turnip Bharta

Ingredients
4 large turnips6-8 roma tomatoes chopped2 medium onions chopped2 green chillis sliced2" ginger grated2 tbsp garam masala1 tbsp coriander powdersalt to tastecayenne pepper to taste2 tbsp chopped cilantro
Directions
Peel and dice turnips. Add just enough water to barely cover them and cook (a pinch of salt added) until soft. Mash and set aside. Heat oil, saute onions until transparent, add ginger, sliced green chillis, tomatoes, salt, turmeric, chilli (cayenne) powder and cook down until oil starts to separate to the sides. Add mashed turnips, cook down and add the brown sugar about 2 min before removing from heat.

Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with chapatis.

    I loved this recipe. Few things I did differently - grated the turnips and cooked them together with the other vegetables and spices instead of beforehand. Also, I added a little garlic. Taster Yummy, thanks!! - 7/22/10
