Tomato Rasam

Ingredients
* Lentils, 1 cup cooked * Red Ripe Tomatoes, 2 medium whole (2-3/5" dia), chopped * Tamarinds, .1 cup, pulp * *Canola Oil, 1 1tsp * Ginger Root, 3 slices (1" dia), minced * Cayenne pepper, fresh, cut in half * Mustard seeds, 1 tspn * Asafoetida, 1/4 tspn * Rasam powder, 2 tspns * Salt to taste * Cilantro, 2 tbspns minced
Directions
Heat 2 cups of water, Add tomatoes, tamarind pulp, rasam powder, salt and simmer, uncovered for 5 mins.
Add cooked lentils, ginger, cayenne pepper and simmer for 5 mins more. Remove from heat.
Heat oil in a separate pan, add mustard seeds. When they pop, add asafoetida and empty into rasam.
Add minced cilantro as garnish.
