C & S Green Split Pea Soup with Ham

2 cups dried green split peas1 bay leaf1/2 cup chopped onion3.5 oz. Jennie O Turkey Ham1 cup chopped celery2 quarts filtered water1.4 teaspoon thyme1/2 cup diced carrots
Throw everything into slow cooker with 2 quarts water. Cook 4 hours.
For stove top: Bring peas to boil, reduce heat. simmer 2 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and let stand. Add ham bone, vegtables, bay leaf and thyme; heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, coverred, for 2-1/2 to 3 hours or until peas are soft. Remove bone; cut meat off and dice. If desired, put veggie mixture thru food mill, blendeer, or seive. Return meat to soup; season to taste with salt and pepper. Makes about 2 quarts.
