I used ground turkey instead of beef & left out the ketchup. I calculated this w/ extra lean beef & no ketchup & it came out to 237 cal. (which is still great), but w/ 1 lb. 99% & one lb. 93% turkey & no ketchup it was 137 cal. per serving. (for anyone who cares). Also less fat & more protein. :) - 10/27/07

This was really good. I halved the recipe and added about 1 TBSP of BBQ sauce. I topped with a little added ketchup. I omitted the onion, but used a lot of onion powder. Will definately make again. Thanks! - 10/3/09

Thanks, Sherle!! this is a keeper recipe. I froze it in patties that I can put in the Foreman grill for quick servings. - 10/24/07

easy and delicious--my changes: substituted 1 pound ground turkey for ground beef
omitted ketchup, bread, one egg, and onion--added 1 can evaporated milk, used extra oatmeal and panko (instead of bread)--added 2 packets of onion soup mix, garlic powder, onion powder, celery salt, and cooked celery - 3/1/15

The whole family loved it. Grew up on meatloaf and now really like this version. It was a much lighter version then the old fashion country one. I used low carb ketchup to save some cal and carbs. Next time I will go with the leanest version of meat to save on the grease. - 2/1/09

I skipped the applesauce and instead of ketchup I added BBQ Sauce. Then I baked it in a 9x13 baking dish for 45 minutes and drained the fat. Next I spread a can of tomato soup over the top and baked another 5 minutes. It was easy to cut the portions into the size I wanted. - 11/6/09

I made this recipe with low carb ketchup (reduced sugar) rolled oats instead of quick oats and bread crumbs instead of the bread. I added the topping from the barbecue meatloaf recipe(again using reduced sugar, low carb ketchup) and splenda brown sugar. It was delicious! - 2/11/08

Made it last night and my family loved it, including the kids! Cut the recipe in half and baked it in a glass loaf pan. Also added garlic. It had a unique flavor. Will definitely make it again. - 10/29/07

I did away with the eggs and added more applesauce, used more oatmeal and skipped the bread. My husband is very fussy, and I didn't think he would like it, but he said it was very good! Made it in muffin tins and froze the rest. We'll have this again! - 10/29/07

I added a bit more spices, including garlic, celery, and a touch more ketchup. It was delicious and very moist. - 10/26/07

I made this and made a few changes...instead of bread, I used all oatmeal, added more applesauce and only one egg. I used onion soup mix instead of chopped onions and used bbq sauce instead of ketchup. Also add garlic salt. I made it w/3# lean ground beef. It was great! - 10/25/07

I used 1lb of lean ground meat, 1 egg, 1cup homemade breadcrumbs, and jalapeņo ketchup, the onions stayed the same. One small meatloaf and two hamburgers, which is great for us. - 9/9/20

Would this hold together well enough to make meatballs? I do NOT fry my meatballs, but bake them on my sprayed broiler pan. But so often they DON'T hold their shape because they are too soft. Do you bake them half the time for muffin tins and maybe 20 minutes for meatballs? - 9/13/12

Yummy for the calories, but I found it a little bland too. Will try to add some seasonings next time. - 9/4/11

These are AWESOME! I did not use onions, but onion powder. I did skip the eggs for extra apple sauce, and use a little BBQ sauce. YUM YUM!! - 4/17/10
