Fluffy Sopapillas

Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour1 teaspoons baking powder1/2 teaspoon salt2 tablespoons shortening3/4 cups warm water2 quarts oil for fryingEditor's Note: We have determined the nutritional value of oil for frying based on a retention value of 10% after cooking. The exact amount may vary depending on cook time and temperature, ingredient density, and the specific type of oil used.
Directions
1.In a large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, salt and shortening. Stir in water; mix until dough is smooth. Cover and let stand for 5-20 minutes.

2.Roll out on floured board until 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 1-2 inch squares (try to make 24 squares). Heat oil in deep-fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Fry until golden brown on both sides (~10 seconds). Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

Serving recommedations:

Put in tupperware or plastic bag and shake. You can use either: Cinnamon and Sugar or Powdered Sugar


Take a portion (approx. 2 squares) and put Honey on top if you would like.

    Be sure to use enough oil so that the food doesn't drop the temp more than a few degrees when you put it in. With good temp control, very little oil is absorbed. - 11/17/18
