Nikhil's Homemade Chicken Biriyani

1 whole chicken, cut into pieces and skin removed1 1/2 cups basmati rice, uncooked1 cup frozen peas1/2 green pepper, cut into large pieces1/2 medium onion, chopped2 jalapeno peppers, chopped4 cloves garlic, minced2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped2 tbsp vegetable oil1 tbsp ginger, minced1 tbsp cumin seed1 tbsp mustard powder2 tbsp chili powder2 cloves3 cardamom seeds2 cinnamon sticks1 pkg Shan Biriyani Masala1 can (6 oz) tomato paste1/2 tbsp black pepper4 cups water
Brown chicken with 1 tbsp oil, vegetables, spices and tomato paste.
Mix together peas and dry rice with remaining oil. Add to chicken and spice mixture with water.
Cover and cook over low heat for about 25 minutes until rice is cooked. Try not to stir the dish or the rice will get too sticky.
