Soaki peas overnight and discard water. Add to pan, cover with water and bring to simmer. Chop onion finely and add to soup. Add Bay leaves and whole black pepper, and simmer until peas are tender If using a hambone, add it with the water.
Cut bread into cubes. Spray with cooking spray and brown in frying pan until browned and crispy.l
