Sometimes we need a recipe that isn't devoid of calories or part of a totally perfect diet--some of the reviewers forgot that with this plan, we can eat what we want as long as we plan for it, do it in moderation, practice portion control etc...I like the idea of a fruit based dessert=thanks! - 1/16/10

I make this during the Christmas Season every year and substitute with low fat, low sugar everything. I also add a can of drained Mandarin Oranges and it is really good! Thanks for sharing! - 8/1/08

I deleted the milk altogether, but you could use evap instead of sweetened condensed. I added walnuts, coconut, mandarin oranges. I've had it with canned apricots, diced, and it's also good that way. If you're going to eat it right away you can add banana; otherwise they become dark. Yummo!!!! - 1/16/10

substitute lo-cal jello for the milk and low fat cool whip. To that, any combination of fruit will work. - 1/16/10

I have made this before and it is delicious. It is definitely a dessert, and the addition of nuts is a wonderful idea. I love it frozen for parties. Why not use lower fat or lower sugar versions of whipped topping and/or condensed milk? - 8/1/08

I am diabetic and can see MANY ways to tweak this recipe to make it fit inot my diet! I am shocked to see so many rude comments about this recipe! We're not al going to agree but let's disagree in a more respectful way. After all, if a recipe isn't your cup of tea don't make it! Simple. - 3/16/11

Used less than 1/4c. condensed milk (low fat condensed). Will not use next time to save calories. Prefer to substitute calories with 1/3c chop walnuts Added mandarin oranges in juice. As someone else said everything can be found in low fat and/or less sugar versions. Remember 8 servings. Delicious! - 12/23/08

Nobody told you to eat this...or to eat all of it...its a treat...so just ignore it and go find something healthy for you. - 3/16/11

I have made something similar before, very tasty!! Also look for whole cherries in juice instead of pie filling to cut calories even more! - 11/19/07

I halve the sweetened condensed milk as it was too sweet for my taste. (wonder how it would taste with chocolate Cool Whip.) Goes well with homemade sponge cake. This recipe freezes GREAT! - 3/7/07

I think every diet that is strickly about health all of the time would get old quick. Also we can all benefit from the ideas given to make this less fattening and better healthwise. This is very tasty in most of the ways given. Please let's not be rude to one another. Don't be healthy and mean. - 3/16/11

Have made something similar with mini marshmallows and pistachio pudding. Very high calorie, but very good. I just taste. Rather use my calories on something else. lol - 1/16/10

I like these kinds of recipes. They help me learn to use my imagination and make healthier adjustments to a recipe. Too many negative comments here. This recipe sounds good and CAN be modified. - 3/16/11

I've been making this recipe, only with Strawberry Pie Filling since the 1980's. It is very high in calories but, oooohhhh, so good! Never tried it with Cherry pie filling and since I like cherries better than strawberries, I bet it would be much better! - 1/16/10

My mom makes this all the time but we call it banana split salad & add sliced bananas & walnuts. When I make it, I use the Fat Free condensed milk & FF Cool whip & sometimes low sugar cherry pie filling, it's still delicious! - 3/16/11

My mother used to make this every Christmas with rushed pineapple instead of chunks--she sometimes used blueberry pie filling instead of cherry. Very sweet and yummy! - 1/16/10

Am I correct in assuming the condensed milk is regular evaporated milk, not sweetened condensed? - 12/21/08

I have made this for years, but add about a teaspoon of lemon juice to make it set. We used this at a ladies luncheon this past week . Quick and easy to make. - 12/21/08

I will experiment with the ingredients... needed a little something more, but good enough to try again with some modifications. - 8/2/08
