Split pea soup (no ham)

Ingredients
1.5 cups split green peas, dried1 can (10.75 oz.) chicken broth1 can water1 cup chopped carrots1 cup chopped yellow onion1 tsp. thyme1 tsp. crumbled bay leaf1 tsp. coarse sea salt1 tsp. coarse ground black pepper
Directions
Brown carrots and onions in a saucepan with a little oil until soft, about 8-10 minutes. Then add all other ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour. Pour into a blender or food processor and gently pulse until creamy. Add water if soup is too thick, but it should be nice and thick. Season with salt and pepper as desired and serve with a rustic whole grain bread.
