Open faced German Apple Cake

Crust:2 C Flour1 tsp baking powder1/2 tsp salt1/4 C sugar1/2 C Crisco1 egg1/4 C Milk1 tsp Vanilla ExtFilling 4 apples, sliced & peeled1 Tbls sugar1 tsp cinnamon2 Tbls butter
Mix all dry crust ingredients in a bowl. Add shortening and mix until lumpy. Add milk to egg and beat with fork. Add to dry ingredients, mix well with spoon, then add extract. Form dough into round ball and cut in half. If dough is too soft, add a little flour and flatten into pie plate.
Peel & cut apples into 8 slices and place on crust in a wagon-wheel pattern. Sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar and dots of butter
Bake at 375 for 20 minutes or until apples are soft
ALTERNATIVE:
Replace apples with peaches except spinkle with lemon juice, sugar and dot with butter
OR
Replace apples with plums and cover plums for first 20 minutes, then sprinkle with sugar and dot with butter and continue baking until crust is brown (plums will turn white)
